In response to what is being called a “scathing report” by the Office of Inspector General, detailing shocking pension abuses by Gloucester County Democrat Chairman Michael Angelini, the Young Republicans of Gloucester and Camden Counties issued the following joint statement:
“(Gloucester County Democrat Chairman) Michael Angelini’s pension padding scheme is a disgrace to the hardworking taxpayers of Gloucester County, the state of New Jersey’s cash-strapped citizens and, in a particularly cruel way, to the younger generation that will ultimately bear the financial burden of his repeated wrongdoing,” stated Randy Ford, Chairman of the Gloucester County Young Republicans.
Former GOP Freeholder candidate and GCYR Vice Chair Chris DelBorrello added, “During the campaign, I went door-to-door and spoke with hundreds of hardworking taxpayers who are struggling to pay their taxes and keep the heat on. I’m disgusted and angry to learn that party boss Michael Angelini receives a massive $100,000/year public pension for work he didn’t even perform himself. Gloucester County families deserve better from their public officials.”
According to the official report, Angelini frequently dispatched business associates to various municipalities and public boards where he was personally hired to serve as a solicitor, prosecutor or some other public function. Angelini profited handsomely from these no-show jobs, collecting pension credits on the taxpayers’ dime.
“Sadly, we have seen this type of behavior before from the local Democrat machine,” observed Camden County Young Republican Chairman Matt Rooney. “Another infamous South Jersey crook – Former State Senator Wayne Bryant – robbed New Jersey by collecting tax dollars for government jobs he never actually performed.”
“It should be noted that Governor-elect Christie sent Wayne Bryant to jail for offenses eerily similar to the disturbing behavior outlined in this report,” Rooney added. “Burdened with college loans and tax bills, Young New Jerseyans should refuse to pay for the misdeeds of party hacks and machine stooges.”
South Jersey Young Republicans “call on other young citizens – regardless of party affiliation – to speak out and tell Angelini and his machine allies that the taxpayers will no longer pay for the greedy behavior we voted to end on November 3rd.”
